THE REBEL GAMES

The Slippery Rock Softball Team traveled to Kissimmee, Florida to play in a tournament over Spring Break. They finished 6-5 in the Rebel Games. The team came out strong in their first game against Minnesota-Moorehead. They won the game 5-2 in the sixth inning due to the weather. The Rock hit a rocky patch and dropped their next 4 games. They came back to get wins against Tiffin and Northwood on Friday. Then on Saturday, they split losing to Wayne State while beating Northwood in their rematch.
     The team did very well in the tournament and they have very high expectations for this season. Their next game is Friday at Glenville State. The Rocks home opener will be this Saturday against Mansfield.

McCutchen Agrees to a Contract Extension
Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder, Andrew McCutchen, has agreed to a six year $51.5 million contract. This contract is the second largest in franchise history. Catcher Jason Kendall received a six year $69 million contract in 2000. McCutchen will receive a $1.25 million signing bonus with this contract as well. The center fielder put up great numbers in the 2011 season. He hit 23 home runs, had 89 RBIs, and stole 23 bases. McCutchen is one of the best player in the league, and the Pirates are very pleased and relieved to have him in Pittsburgh for another 6 years.
     Also, Pirates pitcher A.J. Burnett is out for two to three weeks due to a facial fracture. He broke is orbital bone during a bunting drill last week. Burnett was expected to be the starting pitcher for the season opener. Even though Burnett is out for a few months, the Pirates still have a excellent pitching rotation. They have Erik Bedard, James McDonald, Kevin Correia, and Jeff Kartens to back up the injured Burnett.

SEC CHAMPS!
The Tennesse Lady Vols basketball team won its 16th SEC championship Sunday night against LSU. This is the teams 3rd consective championship. The team was lead by Glory Johnson and Shekinna Stricklen. Johnson was the tournament MVP and grabbed her 35th career double-double, while Stricklen added 16 points. This Lady Vols team is now on a 21 game win streak going into the NCAA Tournament. The tournament seeds will be announced next Monday, March 12. Coach Pat Summit is on the verge of breaking another record herself. She is five wins away from the 1,100 accomplishment.

The career area that I'm interested in is coaching. I have been playing baseball/softball since I was four years old. I want to stay around the game for a long time. I ultimately want to coach college softball at the division I or II level.
