McCutchen Agrees to a Contract Extension
Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder, Andrew McCutchen, has agreed to a six year $51.5 million contract. This contract is the second largest in franchise history. Catcher Jason Kendall received a six year $69 million contract in 2000. McCutchen will receive a $1.25 million signing bonus with this contract as well. The center fielder put up great numbers in the 2011 season. He hit 23 home runs, had 89 RBIs, and stole 23 bases. McCutchen is one of the best player in the league, and the Pirates are very pleased and relieved to have him in Pittsburgh for another 6 years.
Also, Pirates pitcher A.J. Burnett is out for two to three weeks due to a facial fracture. He broke is orbital bone during a bunting drill last week. Burnett was expected to be the starting pitcher for the season opener. Even though Burnett is out for a few months, the Pirates still have a excellent pitching rotation. They have Erik Bedard, James McDonald, Kevin Correia, and Jeff Kartens to back up the injured Burnett.

  2. Extending McCutchen's contract is a great move for Pittsburgh. He is the face of the Pittsburgh Pirate Organization and helps generate revenue for the team by putting fans in the seats. Hopefully he can lead the Pirates to their first winning season in 20 years. Go Pirates!

  3. McCutchen is the face of the Pirates organization, obviously. I think he will be with the Pirates until the day he retires.
